Earthquake Info (IQ)

The Info Bar display for Earthquake Info provides information about the live feed of the latest Earthquakes throughout the world, as plotted on the map in the 'Natural > Earthquakes' map-layer.

The Info Bar display first shows a color-key for the different levels of Magnitude of the earthquakes plotted on the map. Colors for hidden ranges of magnitude are not shown. It then lists the description of the currently-selected earthquake-option that was chosen on the 'Layers Menu'. There are 15 options available: Past Day - Significant Earthquakes, Past Day - M4.5+ Earthquakes, Past Day - M2.5+ Earthquakes, Past Day - M1.0+ Earthquakes, Past Day - All Earthquakes, Past 7 Days - Significant Earthquakes, Past 7 Days - M4.5+ Earthquakes, Past 7 Days - M2.5+ Earthquakes, Past 7 Days - M1.0+ Earthquakes, Past 7 Days - All Earthquakes, Past 30 Days - Significant Earthquakes, Past 30 Days - M4.5+ Earthquakes, Past 30 Days - M2.5+ Earthquakes, Past 30 Days - M1.0+ Earthquakes, Past 30 Days - All Earthquakes, selectable through the 'Additional Layer Features' control on the 'Layers Menu'. That's the place where you can also select which ranges of magnitude are hidden or plotted, and which ranges have added magnitude-labels.

Next, a count of Earthquakes selected by the earthquake-option, and then detailed information about each Earthquake: Magnitude, Place, Position, Depth, Seismic-Stations Seen By, and Date/Time. The earthquake reports, ordered by magnitude, are automatically divided into pages, that are then cycled automatically.

Clicking an Earthquake report will open a Pop-Out, which will provide additional layer information:

Earthquake Magnitude Type.

Earthquake Seismic Stations Seen By - Total number of Earthquake Seismic Stations used to determine earthquake location.

Earthquake Gap - The largest azimuthal gap between azimuthally adjacent Seismic Stations.

Earthquake DMIN - The horizontal distance from the epicenter to the nearest Seismic Stations (in degrees).

Earthquake RMS - The root-mean-square travel time residual, in sec, using all weights.

Earthquake Network - The ID of a data contributor. Identifies the network considered to be the preferred source of information for this event.

Earthquake Updated - The time when the event was most recently updated.

Earthquake Type - The type of seismic event

Earthquake Location Source - The network that originally authored the reported location of this event.

Earthquake Magnitude Source - The network that originally authored the reported magnitude for this event.

A map of Earthquake Position, that is centered on the position of the Earthquake , is included. You can left-click the map to re-center it, for a different point of view, or right-click the map to select a different map-projection: Azimuthal Equidistant, Lambert Azimuthal Equal Area North, Lambert Azimuthal Equal Area South, or Orthographic.
