Pop-Outs

Pop-Outs are a way to display more information about items in an InfoBar page. Clicking a relevant item in an InfoBar page will open a small window to the right of the InfoBar. It's size is related to the current width of the InfoBar. A number of headings will show in the upper-left of the Pop-Out. Clicking these will result in different actions, depending on which page and which item it is.

Information about the heading will be displayed in the areas below, in the form of text, pictures, or maps.

A heading may also show extra items in a series of sub-headings in the upper-right of the Pop-Out. Clicking these will display information about the sub-heading in the areas below, also in the form of text, pictures, or maps.

Many of the InfoBar pages actually contain multiple pages, that scroll every few seconds. Whilst the Pop-Out is displayed, the scrolling is paused. This is indicated by a rectangle added around the title of the page on the InfoBar. A rectangle will also be added to the item clicked in the InfoBar, that opened the Pop-Out. You can close the Pop-Out by clicking either of these rectangles, or by clicking the 'X' in the Pop-Out's top-right corner. Closing the Pop-Out will resume the scrolling.

When a map is displayed, you will see that a marker is added to indicate the position of the item. You can click the map to reposition the map-center, to see the marker from a different point of view. You can also right-click the map to select a different map-projection: Azimuthal Equidistant, Lambert Azimuthal Equal Area North, Lambert Azimuthal Equal Area South, or Orthographic. Sometimes a second marker is added on your User Location, with the Great Circle route added between the markers.

Some items, such as the beacons on the 'NCDXF Beacons' page, have multiple images. In this case, you can use forward and back-arrows shown over the images to move between them.

FAQs

Q. Which items can you click to open Pop-Outs?

A. On some InfoBar pages there are only a few items, whilst on other pages there may be hundreds. To color or highlight all of them was felt to be rather overwhelming, and would spoil the visual style of the page, so therefore this has not been done. You will have to have fun experimenting to find them - you will soon get the idea!
