Search
The 'Search' tab-page has 9 sub tab-pages: US Callbook, Canada Callbook, Places and Codes, Counties, Position, IOTA, Lighthouses, Parks, Summits.
Each enables you to search the various database and tables in many different ways.
US Callbook
NAOMI contains the complete US amateur callbook data from the FCC. You can update this as often as you like. See the 'Updates > Download Latest FCC ULS Dataset' help-page for details. Because of the size of the database: nearly 1.5 million entities, NAOMI doesn't provide a Browse facility for the US amateur callbook, but there is a comprehensive Search available from this page.
To perform a Search, select one of the fields by using its radio-button, then enter some text (at least 3 characters) in the Search Text box. Select the appropriate 'Search Options', and then press the 'Search US' button. Results are shown in the 'Tables' tab.
Right-click a line in the 'Tables' tab for more options. Right-click a map-marker to compare its position with other data-sets, or perform other tasks.
The 'Unknown Zipcode' search returns every row where the zipcode in the licence listing could not be matched with a zipcode in the zipcode database. Search Text is ignored. If you spot a valid zipcode that should be in the database, please tell EI8IC about it, with an online reference to the correct location.
All callsigns returned in the search are georeferenced where possible, to provided a position for each call, but you should be aware that the positions are derived from the zipcode associated with each address, rather than geocoding the actual address. This is more than sufficient for most Amateur Radio mapping needs, but will not show the actual house on a map.
Canada Callbook
NAOMI contains the complete Canada amateur callbook data from the ISED. You can update this as often as you like. See the 'Updates > Download Latest ISED Canada Dataset' help-page for details. Because of the size of the database: nearly 83,000 entities, NAOMI doesn't provide a Browse facility for the Canadian amateur callbook, but there is a comprehensive Search available from this page.
To perform a Search, select one of the fields by using its radio-button, then enter some text (at least 3 characters) in the Search Text box. Select the appropriate 'Search Options', and then press the 'Search Canada' button. Results are shown in the 'Tables' tab.
Right-click a line in the 'Tables' tab for more options. Right-click a map-marker to compare its position with other data-sets, or perform other tasks.
The 'Unknown Postcode' search returns every row where the postcode in the licence listing could not be matched with a postcode in the postcode database. Search Text is ignored. If you spot a valid postcode that should be in the database, please tell EI8IC about it, with an online reference to the correct location.
All callsigns returned in the search are georeferenced where possible, to provided a position for each call, but you should be aware that the positions are derived from the postcode associated with each address, rather than geocoding the actual address. This is more than sufficient for most Amateur Radio mapping needs, but will not show the actual house on a map.
Places and Codes
The 'Places and Codes' tab-page provides search facilities for Place Names and Postal Codes in four different database tables: gazetteers for Canada and the US, plus Canadian postcode and US zipcode tables.
To perform a Search, select one of the fields by using its radio-button, then enter some text (at least 3 characters) in the Search Text box. Select the appropriate 'Search Options', and then press the 'Search' button. Results are shown in the 'Tables' tab.
Right-click a line in the 'Tables' tab for more options. Right-click a map-marker to compare its position with other data-sets, or perform other tasks.
Counties
The 'Counties' tab-page provides search facilities for Counties in the USA. You can search for field-values in the Counties database, or search for a County that contains a specified Grid Locator or Latitude/Longitude position.
To perform a Search, select one of the fields by using its radio-button, then enter some text (at least 3 characters) in the Search Text box. Select the appropriate 'Search Options', and then press the 'Search' button. Results are shown in the 'Tables' tab.
If you check the 'In State' box, search results will only be returned if in the State that has been selected in the adjacent drop-down selector.
Right-click a line in the 'Tables' tab for more options. Right-click a map-marker to compare its position with other data-sets, or perform other tasks.
You can also plot all of the Counties in a State, on to the Online Map only, by selecting a State in the upper drop-down selector, and clicking the 'Plot All Counties in State' button. The Counties for that State are also listed in the 'Tables' tab-page.
Position
The 'Position' tab-page provides search facilities for a specified Grid Locator or Latitude/Longitude position. It operates slightly differently from the other search tab-pages, as it does not return results in the 'Tables' tab-page, but shows then on the same 'Position' search tab-page: position, state or province (if available), county (if available), grid locator, and the distance and bearing to the Home Position.
A position search will place a Marker on all four maps. A Grid Locator search will place a boundary box on the Overlay, Online, and World maps. Overlay and World maps only show 4 character boundary boxes, and will convert a 6 character to a 4 character box.
The Online Map will show both 4 and 6 character boundary boxes.
Right-click a map-marker or boundary box to compare its position with other data-sets.
IOTA
The 'IOTA' tab-page provides search facilities for North American IOTA groups. You can search for field-values in the IOTA database, or search for an IOTA bounding box that contains a specified Grid Locator or Latitude/Longitude position.
To perform a Search, select one of the fields by using its radio-button, then enter some text (at least 3 characters) in the Search Text box. Select the appropriate 'Search Options', and then press the 'Search North American IOTA Groups' button. Results are shown in the 'Tables' tab.
Right-click a line in the 'Tables' tab for more options: you can plot the centroid as a Marker, or plot the group boundaries as a polygon. Right-click a map-marker to compare its position with other data-sets, or perform other tasks.
If you have right-clicked a Marker and chosen 'Position-Referenced Browsing', you will be taken to the 'Browse' tab-page, and the position of the Marker that you right-clicked will be entered next to the radio-button marked 'Marker Position', in the 'Select a Reference Position' panel. If you then select a table to browse in the box on the right of the page, and click 'Browse Selected Table', that table will be shown in the 'Tables' tab-page, and the entries in the 'Distance' and 'Bearing' columns will all be referenced on the position of the Marker that you right-clicked.
If you have right-clicked a Bounding Box and chosen 'Position-Referenced Browsing', you will be taken to the 'Browse' tab-page, and the bounding limits of that Bounding Box will be entered as North, South, East and West limits in the 'Limit Results to Within these Boundaries' panel. The 'Enable Boundary Limits' checkbox will also have been checked. Now, when you click 'Browse Selected Table', the selected table will be shown in the 'Tables' tab-page, filtered to contain only those entries that are within the bounding box limits.
Lighthouses
